Promesa Boyle Heights has led an innovative approach to collective impact and community empowerment in the community of Boyle Heights for over ten years. I co-facilitated a strategic planning process with Promesa’s former Director to set the collaborative’s long-term and near-term priorities. This work included designing a quantitative and qualitative method for selecting new school sites to add to Promesa’s Community Schools portfolio and building bilingual (Spanish and English) and culturally competent engagement for resident leaders, organizational partners, staff, and donors to ensure that the new strategic plan reflected their voices.

United Way of Greater Los Angeles (UWGLA) is committed to creating pathways out of poverty for all L.A. County residents. UWGLA focuses its grantmaking and programs on education, housing, and economic mobility. I facilitated a stakeholder engagement process to inform the strategic focus and future priorities of UWGLA’s education portfolio and Communities for Los Angeles Student Success (CLASS) coalition’s work to advance education equity in Los Angeles. The process included facilitated gatherings and one-on-one interviews with LAUSD school district administrators, school board members, nonprofit leaders, and members of the CLASS coalition. I crafted recommendations for CLASS and UWGLA leadership to consider based on the assessment’s findings.

The Southeast Los Angeles (SELA) Tutoring Initiative facilitated by Innovate Public Schools Los Angeles secured an investment of $200k from the cities of South Gate and Huntington Park to provide free high-quality tutoring to SELA students. From Fall 2021 to Spring 2022, I completed a landscape analysis of tutoring options in SELA and facilitated a stakeholder engagement process that ultimately engaged over 70 individuals representing 37 organizations to inform the strategic focus and design of the SELA Tutoring Initiative concept. I also developed fundraising proposals and budgets and led overall project management.

A Place Called Home (APCH) is a youth and community center in South Central Los Angeles that provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, art and music programs, fitness, health and wellness opportunities, and career success services to over 600 young people and their families. I facilitated the development of APCH’s Logic Model which delineates the core elements and intended outcomes of APCH’s youth development approach. I continue to support staff by delivering a professional development series designed to strengthen their capacity to implement APCH’s youth development model with fidelity and rigor.
